Week 3 - Sediment Layer Jar

📋 Materials (Household Only)

Clear glass jar or cup Sand (play sand or beach sand) Soil or dirt Small gravel or pebbles Water Spoon or stick to stir Pencil & this worksheet

⚠️ Safety: Do this outside or over a sink. Water + soil can spill. Wash hands after. Be careful with the glass jar.

Write your prediction before you start:

🔧 Procedure

1 Add 2 spoonfuls of gravel to the jar. Then add 2 spoonfuls of sand. Then 2 spoonfuls of soil. 2 Fill the jar about halfway with water. 3 Put the lid on (or cover with your hand). Shake the jar for 15 seconds. 4 Place the jar on a flat surface. Watch the layers form. Record what you see at 1, 5, 10, and 20 minutes.
